Breast Cancer Recovery-Share the Knowledge: Movement

September 20, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

ABCD is proud to co-host this event!

When someone is undergoing cancer treatment, physical therapy may not be the first healthcare field that comes to mind. Early cancer treatment is with oncologists, radiologists, nurses and surgeons. Rightly so, as these healthcare practitioners are essential to the treatment and management of cancer.  But, is that enough?  Physical therapy can help restore the rest.

Cancer rehabilitation is a growing area in medicine due to the increase in cancer survivorship and advances in medical technology, treatment and early detection.  Common physical impairments across all cancers include strength loss, range of motion loss, scar tissue, muscle tightness, pain, and more.

About our Speaker:

Leslie J. Waltke, PT, DPT is a physical therapist with a clinical mastery in cancer rehabilitation and Founder of the Waltke Cancer Rehabilitation Academy. Since earning her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin in 1988, Dr. Waltke has dedicated most of her career solely to treating the cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, integumentary and functional needs of persons during and after treatment for cancer. She is respected nationally and internationally as an oncology physical therapist, cancer rehabilitation key opinion leader, author, educator and consultant.
