Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 2020
August 20, 2021
As you may know, October is considered National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time of year dedicated to educating, communicating, and elevating understanding about breast cancer detection, treatment, and living with this disease.
However, for so many of us and the people we love, breast cancer is 365/24/7. And this year, so is COVID-19.
At ABCD, we understand that the unprecedented combination of breast cancer + coronavirus can add up to overwhelming fear, depression, and loss of control. To help deal with this emotional ‘tornado,’ we keep coming back to two of our guiding questions:
- How are you doing today?
- How can ABCD help you today?
For me, these two questions are stabilizing. They quiet the larger swirling noise of the unknown. They focus on the here and now, which is what ABCD does day in and day out.
During this October, I hope you’ll focus on your today.
Reach out and connect with someone you love.
Take a walk outside or try an online yoga class.
Bake pumpkin bread or enjoy a pumpkin spice latte.
And please contact ABCD if you or someone you know have questions about a diagnosis or would like to be matched or re-matched with one of our 300 Mentors. Just fill out this form or give us a call, M-F, 9am-5pm CST, at 800-977-4121. We’re here to listen and help anytime you need us – at diagnosis, through treatment and on into survivorship.
